Southampton Village Center Master Plan offers vision of future

The Southampton Village Board is nearing approval of a new master plan for the business district, but not before residents have had time to familiarize themselves with the plan and offer their reactions to the proposal.

The Village Center Vision Plan is designed to direct all future development of Southampton’s downtown, from stores and parks to storm drains and parking lots. The plan, as outlined by Ehrenkrantz Eckstut & Kuhn Architects, the Manhattan firm that designed it, identifies seven key objectives of the proposal, saying it aims to preserve the unique historic fabric of the village; maximize walking; have an integrated circulation and parking strategy; maintain a year-round, central focus; have improved and sustainable storm water handling; make art a defining characteristic; and reinforce the “village green.”
